ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born to Pamela Morgan (age 30) Morgan, and Michael Morgan on July 2 1989. Morgan, along with her sisters Jeni and Jeri were raised in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles. Morgan was multisport throughout her childhood, but she began playing soccer at the age of 14. Morgan then became a member of the Cypress Elite club team, winning the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship and finishing in third place in the bracket for under-19 players. Morgan continued to improve her soccer skills while at Diamond Bar High School. National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) chose Morgan as an All-American Athlete. She also played in the Olympic Development Program's state and regional divisions. Morgan advanced her soccer skills at UC Berkeley, where she was the captain of the California Golden Bears team in scoring right from the start of their first season. She was instrumental in taking the team to the NCAA Tournament every year and twice making it to the second round. Morgan was among the four finalists in the Honda Sports Award. She also became the first Hermann Trophy finalist from her school. Morgan completed her studies in 2010 with the third highest number of goals and points for Berkeley. Morgan played soccer at the collegiate and national levels throughout her time at school. When she first joined the Berkeley team, Morgan experienced an ACL injury which barred her from participating in the U.S. under-20 women's soccer team until April 2008. The following season, she scored her first international goal during the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship in Mexico. Morgan was also a participant in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. Her team took home a gold medal and she scored her first international goal at the CONCACAF Women's Under-20 Championship in Mexico. One of these was a win goal against Italy, which helped earn the U.S. a place in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player in the team and was the one to lead it to victory against France. Though the U.S. ultimately lost to Japan, Morgan became the first person in history to record both goals and assists in a final World Cup game.
