Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

 Alexandra Rose Raisman (born May 25, 1994) is an ex-retired American artistic gymnast, and a two-time Olympian. She was captain of both the 2012 "Fierce Five" and the 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams, which won their respective team competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London she took home gold medals in the floor and team competitions along with the bronze medal on the balance beam, making her the most accomplished American gymnast of the Games. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she won a gold medal in the team competition which made her and teammates Gabby Douglas and Gabby Douglas the only Americans who have won back-to-back team gold medals. Raisman won silver medals for the all-around individual and floor exercise. She is the 3rd most accomplished American gymnast in Olympic history, just behind Shannon Miller and Simone Biles and has won six Olympic medals.Raisman was also a member of the gold-winning American teams in the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, and the world bronze medalist on floor exercise in the year 2011. She is also two-time national champion in floor exercise (2012 and 2015) and the 2012 national champion on the balance beam. She is also the reigning national champion for five consecutive years in all-around at national championships (silver and bronze in 2010 2011, 2012, and 2015). In 2013 she was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born on May 25 1994 in Needham, Massachusetts to Lynn Faber (nee Faber), who was a former high school gymnast and Rick Raisman. She has three younger siblings: Brett, Chloe, and Madison. Raisman is Jewish and has stated, "I take a lot of satisfaction from being able to not only represent the U.S.A, but also the Jewish community across the world. Raisman began gymnastics at the age of 18 months. She attributes her love of gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's team which won the gold medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics. She trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8 before she moved to Brestyan’s American Gymnastics Club, where she was trained by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman graduated Needham High School, 2012 after completing her senior year through online classes and training for the Olympics.
