Anita Ekberg

 

Kerstin Anita Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29 September 1931 11 January 2015) was a Swedish actress, who was active in American and European films, famous for her beauty and stunning appearance. Her role as Sylvia in Federico Fellini's 1960 film La Dolce Vita (1960) has made her a household name. Ekberg mostly worked in Italy before becoming permanent residents in 1964.Anita Ekberg was born on 29 September 1931 in (Sweden), the sixth child of eight. Anita worked as fashion model throughout her teenage years. Ekberg entered the Miss Malmo competition in 1950 at her mother's urging. This resulted in her being selected for the Miss Sweden contest which she took home. Even though she spoke little English Ekberg traveled to the United States to compete for the Miss Universe 1951 title. This was an official pageant in the year 1951. The pageant officially became officially recognized in 1952. Even though Ekberg didn't win the Miss Universe pageant, as one of six finalists, she did get an actress' contract with Universal Studios. Ekberg was a Universal Starlet, where she was taught the art of elocution, drama and dance. She was briefly featured in The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello Go to Mars (1953) (playing the role of a woman on Venus), Take Me to Town (1953), and The Golden Blade (1953).
