Smollett played part of The Great Debaters along with Forest Whitaker and Denzel Washingon director Denzel Washingon. Along with receiving high praise, the film was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Picture and Jurnee received the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Lead actress in a Motion Picture. Tyler Perry's Temptation was her biggest success at the box office, aside from Perry's Madea brand. In addition, she was in the film of her own One Last Thing with Wendell Pierce.
